The purpose of this assignment is to develop in the learner an awareness of the health beliefs / practices of a culture different from their own.

Student Approach to Assignment

I approached this assignment by choosing a culture to research that frequently encounter at work. This assignment reflects my interests in providing competent care to culturally diverse populations. I learned a great deal from this assignment, including cultural beliefs about health, rituals, death and more.

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

            As nurses, we should always strive to learn. Learning doesn’t have to always be about science/medicine. Providing adequate patient care can rely on the nurse’s knowledge about different cultures’ beliefs and practices.
